The Making of the Man of the Trees

‘The Making of the Man of the Trees: A biographical interrogation of the early life of Richard St. Barbe Baker (1889-1982)’

PhD in Environmental History, Department of Landscape Architecture, the University of Sheffield.

In 2015 I embarked upon a PhD to study the life and legacy of the forester and conservationist, Richard St. Barbe Baker, founder of the Men of the Trees.  My research started with a visit to the University of Saskatchewan’s Archive and Special Collection which holds the R. St. B. Baker Papers, the richest cache of primary source material relating to this forgotten titan of ecological thought.
